Documentation debt

As-builts that lie multiply every future project hour.

Documentation debt is the interest you pay on rushed handovers. TECHNLOGIX PTY LTD treats deliverables as part of the control system, not paperwork afterthought.

Symptoms

Maintenance downloads logic without knowing which revision runs. IO lists disagree with field labels. Network diagrams omit the switch installed in 2019. Each new integrator spends weeks reverse-engineering before adding value.

Paydown strategy

After any change: update exports, tag DB, and one-line revision note in the asset folder. Quarterly spot-audit one line against running code. Tie CMMS asset records to document URLs.

Contract language

Specify deliverable formats in purchase orders—native exports, not PDF-only. Hold final payment until documentation acceptance, not only SAT sign-off.
